Welcome to the new website!

Published on April 26, 2020

It sure has been a while. A lot of stuff has happened in my life since the last update, and working on new game projects hasn't exactly been something I could invest my time in. However, as we all know, life hasn't been exactly fun for the last few weeks. I therefore decided to take some of the time I had off to do a refresh of my website. Since it was opened two years ago, I've learned numerous new things related to web development, and I am now comfortable utilising PHP and JavaScript in my websites. On the surface, the core design is roughly the same as it has been, minus a few minor tweaks. The biggest changes come in form of significant UX improvements. On the Blog and Mgea Mna pages, the blog entries and game pictures respectively no longer open in a new page. Additionally, the About tab has been improved and features more links as well as the ability to more easily send a message. All of those modern fancy gimmicks come at a cost; some older browsers or computers risk being unable to display the site properly. Rest assured, however, that I have extensively tested the website for maximum compatibility. It is (more or less) functional on browsers as old and rotten as Explorer 6 and the Nintendo DSi Browser, and worse case scenario, the website is fully operational if JavaScript is disabled (minus the web apps, of course). Web compatibility is something we take for granted, but the reality is that there are many websites that are literally unusable on even mildly older browsers. Not everyone has the luxury of running the latest and greatest.

Lastly, the Games tab has been renamed to Projects and now features some non-game stuff I've made at some point. The most important point of interest is a new web app dubbed the "Fuel Detour Calculator". Its purpose is calculating whether it's worth travelling long distances to purchase cheaper fuel away from home, taking into account things like energy efficiency. It's actually something I've written over a year ago, first as a simple math equation, then as a Bash script. Later, I designed a graphical app in Qt and ported the code to C++, but later figured that it'd be more practical to have a web app, so I ported it yet again to JavaScript. So here you go. I hope you enjoy!

In any case, I wish everyone well, stay safe and stay healthy—not just physically, but mentally too! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to message me.
